Resting on over 12 acres, El Matador is beautifully landscaped and meticulously attended featuring lush palm trees and manicured lawn. The resort is accented by surrounding sugar-white sand, the sparkling surf, and is convenient to many unique shopping establishments fine restaurants and a variety of water sports.
Age Requirement: NO reservations will be accepted for singles under the age of 25 unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A parent or legal guardian shall be allowed to supervise no more than 3 individuals under the age of 25. Parent or legal guardian MUST occupy the same room as those they are supervising. Any reservations made under false pretenses will forfeit all prepaid rents and deposits and will be required to vacate the unit.

Fun times
We had a great time at ElMatador. It was just perfect weather and we had daughter Son in law and our 4 grandkids there. We had a great time with boogie-boards surfing the waves. We will be back next year with more family also staying in the area. With one heated and one non heated pool you can swim at either one. You can also play basketball, tennis, and relax in the sauna, or Hot tub. It’s just a great family place to stay.

Wonderful as always
This is our third stay at El Matador and our second in this particular unit. It is clean, has a great view and adequate. The furnishings are not beachy , but decor and furnishings are just a personal taste thing and we’ve had no problems. The one thing I do wish management would do is to post or somehow warn guests that they run the risk of being issued a military citation if they venture past the signage. Which is difficult to see when the beach is full. We watched several people being detained for a very long time for being past the signs. The barrier is insufficient, especially since the past two visits there were no issues with walking along the beach on the military side.

Although 362 is getting a little tired now, we enjoyed our stay. This is the fourth year we have chosen to stay there. The view must be one of the best at El Matador, sixth floor, looking west. Renovated several years ago, the furniture is generally comfortable and attractive. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils. The owners have provided a generous library of books, CDs, and DVDs--a most unusual bonus. Why they bought a king size bed for the master bedroom that one has to have a step stool to get into I will never understand, and the bed is very squeaky. All tables are scratched now. Water pressure remains very low year after year.

We have been coming to El Matador annually for about twenty years. This was our fourth time to request #362. The sixth floor view from the balcony has to be one of the very best. The unit is tastefully decorated and furnished. We were pleasantly surprised to find three television sets and (very unusual) a library of books, CDs, videos, and jigsaw puzzles! Some aspects of the unit are getting a little tired, but I suspect it's still 'way ahead of most other rental units. Grounds are attractive and extremely well tended. Security 24/7 is a real plus.

Great View and Location, Needs Updating
We would rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars. The Pros: The apartment was comfortable and has an exceptional view, it had everything that we needed, is a good value and was clean. The guest bath seemed updated and was nice. Pots and pans are a great set if you want to stay in and cook. The Cons: It does not have a "beachy" decor, which is fine, but the furniture needs to be serviced. The Master bed is very large and comfortable but make loud squeaking noises like it needs to be taken apart and have every screw tightened, same with the dining room chairs, they need to be tightened and feel wobbly. Also, the cups and dishes could use updating as well and please replace the vacuum cleaner, it doesn't really pick up anything (especially sand). When we arrived there was a musty smell coming from the utility closet that houses the AC unit that improved during our stay but never went away. The water pressure is very weak, but that is probably due to being on the top floor and not the fault of the unit but something that the building could work to improve. One other thing that the unit could offer that would add a lot of value is to subscribe to two beach chairs and an umbrella, I think an owner said it's only $100 per month, and this cost could be passed down to renters for cheap, otherwise it's $35 or $40 per day. The El Matador staff were nice and helpful, the pools are great. I think that the condo management should sell single serve dish washer and laundry pods so guests don't have to buy a box of these at the store for only a week's stay.

Always gets better.
We have taken a vacation to FL 3 times. All 3 at El Matador. Thought about trying something else but you can’t beat the best. Family oriented, lots of private beach. I know it’s quite and safe. For the $ I’ll always come back. 362 had the best view. You can stay inland and spend all day at the beach. Pack all your crap and have to make a day of it. With us we may swim couple three times a day. It’s literally right there. Right outside. Staff is friendly but no late night parties. Not apposed but this is a family resort. Can’t imagine not coming back.

Beautiful Unit
Let me start by saying that if your looking for a five star condo with all new bells and whistles, then this condo is not for you and El Matador is not for you either. But if you want a nice room with plenty of upgraded appliances and upgraded bathrooms with a wholesome feel then this is the condo for you. With all of the games DVDs and fully stocked kitchen (pots, pans, etc.) you feel like your at home or close as you can get. I have been coming to El matador since I was a kid (30 years) and the grounds have always been kept up beautifully. The views are amazing and your so close to the sand and ocean unlike other condos I have stayed. The only complaint I have, which is not a complaint because it’s not anyone’s fault, but the refrigerator is going out. We didn’t loose any food, but didn’t have much ice all week or the items in the fridge didn’t stay cold at all. (When checking out, I told the front office, so hopefully this issue is resolved). I would come back and book this unit 100 times over if I could!

We really enjoyed staying here. Love the view and family oriented. Not a big party place and that is where we like to take family. Pool was awesome. Very clean facility. Our fridge was going bad so that was the only complaint. We lost some of our food but learned to just put everything in freezer to keep cool enough. We usually stay in Destin but prices just keep going up. After seeing how much more less busy things are at Fort Walton Beach we will definitely be staying here from now on

We have stayed in several different units at El Matador during the past twenty years. We think that 362 is the best--two bedrooms, two baths, recently renovated, tastefully decorated. View from the balcony is unparalleled. You'll even find a library of books, DVDs, and CDs in case it rains one day!

We enjoyed a great week in unit #362. The unit was very clean and equipped with everything a small group would need for a vacation. We returned to 362 this year because last year's stay was so satisfying. The view is THE BEST at El Matador, with a clear view to the west from the sixth floor. The condo is decorated in good taste (intentionally not "beachy"), with comfortable furnishings--even a reasonable library of books, DVDs, and CDs, unlike any unit we have stayed in during our twenty years of coming to El Matador. I was impressed by the updated renovations, including a tiled walk-in shower in the second bathroom. Clean and homey. We'll return to 362.

Michael Blew Us Away
The unit itself is beautiful, but this vacay was jacked from the start. For the first time in 25 years, we got to El Mat and our condo was not ready. With groceries in the car, and at 3:00 on the dot, we arrived hoping to start a great week. No one in the office seemed to know what was what, communications were down, apparently, and we'd driven 7.5 hours and were stopped in our tracks. We finally got in and unpacked. The Unit is beautiful, the furniture comfortable and homey. Unfortunately, we didn't get to stay our week because of Hurricane Michael and the red tide. We'll try again, though! Response: We are very sorry that we were not able to have your unit available upon arrival. We do our very best to have them all ready by 3:00 but sometimes there are circumstances beyond our control that do not allow that to happen. We will continue to improve our check-in procedures and appreciate your feed-back.

BEAUTIFUL UNIT
We stayed in unit 362 which was very nicely renovated and decorated beautifully. The view was great, and the unit was nice and clean. The kitchen is very well stocked with very nice appliances and gadgets. The only negative that I could give the unit as a whole would be that the king bed was extremely firm, and somewhat uncomfortable. There are no washers and dryers in the units at these condos,and I found it very hard to ever find the laundry room vacant and had to do laundry very late at night. Office staff and security were VERY cordial and informative.

Ten Great Days in 362
Over the fifteen or twenty years we have been coming to El Matador, we have stayed in four or five units. We found 362 to be the best of that lot. It is tastefully and comfortably furnished. The owners have provided several extras, including dozens of DVDs and CDs, shelves full of books, and many board games. The view from the sixth floor is superb. We hated to leave at the end of our ten days!

Overall everything was excellent as usual. However we were there during the roof repair with the consistent beeping noise and the bucket and crane blocking our view part of the time. There was also a lot dust and dirt all over the balcony from the roof work. The throw rugs in the bathrooms should be washed or replaced after every tenant.

As usual we enjoyed a great week at the El Matador..our only concern was the couch , although the owner said was relatively new was not very comfortable..Otherwise..what a wonderful unit..The shower in the guest bedroom was awesome...

Nice place great beach and view
Main pool should be heated. The heated pool is small and crowded and out of the way.
Hot tubs/ spa are not conducive to use they are tucked away inside the club house: check in area away from many buildings.
Rooms are nice check in staff pleasant and helpful.
Overall nice place but could be better with the main pool bring heated.

362 El Matador
This was our 7th trip to El Matador and as always we really enjoyed it. The view from unit 362 was the primary reason we chose that unit and it was great. The undeveloped beach next to El Matador is the primary reason we have chosen to return each year. The security and office personnel have always been helpful and friendly. We had a good time and will plan to return. But, I do have two suggestions. 1) The unit needs a really deep cleaning. I had to reset the internet router to get it to work and it looked like the area behind the TV hasn't been dusted or cleaned in years. Likewise, there was a lot of dust accumulated on the table insert in the smaller bedroom closet. 2). A ramp to the beach on the Bldg 3 side, instead of steps, would be really nice.

Great room with an awesome view!
I have stayed at the El Matador about 20 times and room 362 is the one we always try to get. This was the second time we've stayed in this unit. The view is breathtaking. The room has been updated since the last time we stayed and it's beautiful. The only issues we had was the wifi password didn't work, the air conditioner was locked on 78 for some reason. No matter how we tinkered with it, it would run for a while and then go back to 78. The dishwasher door wouldn't latch either. Those were all minor issues as we didn't stay in the room except when it was raining or we were sleeping. I love the people at El Matador and we look forward to returning again soon.
