Looking for new and exciting things to do during your vacation to Florida? Next time you’re visiting the Sunshine State, pay a visit to Morrison Springs Park. Not only are the springs here breathtakingly beautiful, there’s also a wide array of activities to explore within the park.
What are you waiting for? Let’s learn more about Morrison Springs Park.
Where is Morrison Springs Park?
Morrison Springs Park is in northwest Florida, about an hour north of our Fort Walton Beach Vacation rentals! It’s located in Ponce De Leon and is a less than ten-minute drive to Ponce De Leon Springs State Park.
What Is There To Do at Morrison Springs Park?
It’s a great place to go diving! There are boardwalks where you can look out over the water, a diving dock, and a boat ramp. If you want to dive at Morrison Springs, the basin has three main openings. The first basin begins around 30 feet and the other two start at 50 feet. The depths of the caves reach up to 90 feet, which is part of why it’s such a favorite spot for diving! Note: divers must be certified in order to dive here.
Morrison Springs Park is also a great place to go snorkeling. The crystal-clear water means that you can see fish far and wide. There are plenty of creatures in the waters here, from nocturnal freshwater eels to largemouth bass, hybrid striped bass, bluegill, sunfish, redbreast sunfish, catfish, and so many more. Diverse trees, plants, and grasses populate the water as well.
Besides swimming, diving, and snorkeling, you can enjoy the water by going on a kayak ride or taking a short stroll to enjoy nature. There are no officially-marked hiking trails at Morrison Springs Park, but you can go on a half-mile walk to stretch your legs. If you get hungry while you’re here, you can picnic at one of the many tables.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Morrison Springs Park?
The park is open from sunrise to sunset every day, and admission is free. The springs’ views are always gorgeous, but if you visit when the nearby Choctawhatchee River is low, such as during the fall and spring droughts, you’ll get the best crystal-clear view of the water. Sometimes, when the river floods, the springs can be dirtied with muddy water. They’re still beautiful, of course, but you’ll experience the best visibility without added river water.
